What is Reading Assistant?

August 20, 2013

What is Reading Assistant? How is the Reading Assistant program graded? How do I know Reading Assistant will work for my child? Dr Martha Burns, Speech Pathologist and Neuroscientist, answers these questions.

“Reading Assistant took how important it is [to read aloud] and turned it into a computer program… all done through speech recognition software. They don’t need an adult to be with them. It’s building verbal fluency and reading fluency – the advantage is that it is non-judgmental; they can make mistakes and not be embarrassed about it. So they can read quickly, easily and effortlessly.”

In the 4 minute video below, Dr Burns explains in more detail what Reading Assistant is, how it’s graded, and whether it will work for your child.
