Reading Boost & Comprehension Program
Reading skills, and the comprehension that makes reading worthwhile
Whether your child is behind in reading or you simply want to give them an extra boost, this program works on reading and comprehension together, alongside the skills that support them — word meanings, sentence and paragraph comprehension, word analysis, punctuation, capitalisation, sequencing, memory and attention.
Suitable for students from Year 1 through to adults.
Reading … and more
This course contains more than reading practice on its own. Students work through a range of exercises targeting sentence and paragraph comprehension strategies, word meanings, word analysis, punctuation, capitalisation, sequencing, memory, attention and more.
What’s included
The Reading Boost and Comprehension Program is built from four Fast ForWord Reading exercise sets. Most students won’t need to complete all four – we’ll work with you to determine the most appropriate starting point. Book a free consult to discuss what that might look like for your child.
Reading 1
Early reading skills — phonemic awareness, early decoding, vocabulary, motivation for reading
Reading 2
Consolidates early reading — applying phonics and decoding, word recognition, comprehension rules
Reading 3
Builds on Reading 2 — reading knowledge and fluency, phonology, syntax, vocabulary, comprehension
Reading Comprehension
Follows Reading 3 — literal, inferential and cause-and-effect comprehension across fiction and nonfiction

Reading Boost and Comprehension FAQs
What age is the Reading Boost and Comprehension Program suitable for?
This program is suitable for students in year 1 and above (yes, adults love these programs too). Students need to be able to read CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words such as bob, cat, cap and mug to train on Fast ForWord Reading 1, however children who do not have this skill can participate in a preparation program called Fast ForWord Reading Readiness. Adults might start on the last program in the series, Fast ForWord Reading Comprehension. If you are unsure about your child’s suitability for the program please contact our team.
Will this program also improve cognitive skills?
Fast ForWord Reading programs include components that train cognitive skills, however their main focus is on reading skills. If your child has difficulties with auditory processing, memory, sequencing, attention, following instructions or language, we recommend beginning with Fast ForWord processing training before moving to a Reading Boost and Comprehension programs.
When does the course begin and end?
Your course will begin on your first training day and end 3 months later. The Sonic Learning team will monitor and adjust your program during this time as needed. You will have unlimited access and do not need to worry about running out of exercises to do.
Can I pause my subscription?
Your subscription will begin on your first day of training and cannot be paused, but don’t worry if you miss a day – life happens! Aim for 3 sessions per week for best results (that’s 39 sessions over 3 months).
Can I purchase additional training time?
Yes, at the end of the initial subscription you may purchase additional training time in monthly blocks, with discounts provided for purchases of 2 or 3 months.
How long does it take to complete one Fast ForWord Reading program?
What technology do I need?
Fast ForWord programs can be used on most Windows and Mac computers through your internet browser (we recommend Google Chrome browser), as well as on iPad with iOS 11.3 or later. Headphones are recommended to help you concentrate (we recommend stereo headphones that cover the whole ear, such as these ones from Altronics). Parents monitoring their children should use a headphone double adaptor so they can also hear the sound.
