3 Step Reading Program

Our proven online 3 Step Reading Program uses a 3 step method to build the underlying skills that support reading and writing development and then target fluency and comprehension.
Most reading programs provide more and more reading practice or work on phonics skills without first building the underlying skills that support reading and phonics development. This is like building the roof of a house without first building the supporting walls.
How does the 3 Step Reading Program help?
FOUNDATION
Build the foundations of reading – memory, attention, processing and sequencing
WALLS
Explore word meanings, build sentences and paragraphs, work on punctuation and much more
ROOF
Build reading fluency with guided reading using real books
Benefits of the 3 Step Reading Program
Convenient & online
No need to travel – your program is 100% online supported by a Sonic Learning coach via email and phone.
Intensive training
Make the most of your time. Complete thousands of questions each session to re-wire your brain – faster.
Created by neuroscientists
This is a unique, brain-based approach that targets the root causes of learning difficulties.
Research-backed
A research study conducted by Stanford University showed increased activation in the areas of the brain associated with reading and writing after using Fast ForWord, as well as improvements on tests of reading and language. This research was later replicated at Harvard Medical School.

What families say about our programs
It was such a breath of fresh air to finally be using a program that was addressing the underlying reasons as to why Jamie was struggling at school. We felt a huge weight lifted off our shoulders.
Clare, TAS
Being able to do something every day to help train the brain is important and we were keen to retrain Matilda’s brain when it came to processing sounds and words.
Megan, VIC
I like the immediate feedback that Kylah got at the end of each lesson. She could see her progress and we could celebrate her high scores and progress together.
Cara, WA
Fast ForWord is a program that has endless patience. If it sees me struggling it slows down and it doesn’t matter how long I need, it will give me that time to grasp the concept I’m being presented with.
Alexandra, QLD
My husband’s progress has proved the amazing plasticity of the brain.
Helen, WA
FAQs
Do you have a question? Chances are someone has asked it before!
Is this a miracle cure?
No program is a miracle cure and any program claiming this is most likely not based in research. Reading difficulties can be complex and each child has different strengths and weaknesses. However, research shows that the brain is changeable – it can reorganise itself with the right kind of practise. The programs we use have been proven to change the way the brain is organised for reading. This is not a replacement for high quality reading instruction, which every student should be receiving at school.
What age is the 3 Step Reading Program suitable for?
This program is generally suitable for students in Prep (Pre-Primary / Reception) and above (yes, adults love these programs too). Suitability will depend on the individual student’s skill level and our team can provide a demonstration. If you are unsure about yourself or your child’s suitability for the program please contact us.
Will this program also improve cognitive skills?
We use a combination of 9 programs to train the cognitive skills needed for classroom learning, the cognitive foundations for reading, as well as language processing and reading skills. See above for a demo video.
Is there a guarantee?
As health and education professionals, we adhere by relevant advertising standards which state we can’t guarantee a certain result (every brain is different!) What we do guarantee is to provide you with awesome, research-backed exercises and professional support to help you progress through the programs. We’re committed to helping you improve your skills and are always here to help throughout your program.
When does the course begin and end?
Our NDIS course is initially a 3 month course, which you can extend later if you’d like to (we generally recommend at least 12 months of training in order to participate in all 3 steps). Your course will begin on your first training day and end 3 months later. Sonic Learning’s team will monitor and adjust your program during this time as needed. You will have unlimited access to one program at a time, and do not need to worry about running out of exercises to do.
How long does it take to complete all the programs?
As every individual is different, the time spent training on one program before moving to the next also varies from student to student. The timings in this pack are a guide. Generally, in a 12 month period a student will be able to participate in all 3 steps of the program to some extent.
What technology do I need?
Reading Assistant is best used on a Windows or Mac computer with a standard USB (A) port. You will need a compatible headset to use Reading Assistant – the compatible headset that is available in Australia is the Microsoft Lifechat LX-3000 headset which can be purchased directly from Microsoft.
Can I extend the course beyond 3 months?
Yes, at the end of your initial 3-month course you may continue at a reduced fee (current fees are $387 per month for one program or $477 per month for 2 programs, including fortnightly consultations). Extension is optional and completely up to you.
How will I be billed?
We will send you or your plan manager an invoice to pay each fortnight until the total fee is reached. It is therefore important that you set aside the required funds in your budget so you don’t run out of funding. When you enrol, let us know if you’d like us to use the invoicing code for the Core or Capacity Building (Improved Daily Living) funding category.
