Watch this brief “Reading Assistant Tutorial” video with the student. Pay careful attention as it explains how Reading Assistant works and what to do each day.
Complete the first session with the student. Use this opportunity to make them aware of what they need to do and what is expected of them, and to familiarise yourself with the program. Students achieve better results with a coach sitting beside them.
Please don’t be concerned that some of the reading content relates to American history and culture as the purpose of the program is to provide the opportunity for assisted reading practice … and you may learn something about world history in the process!
Each reading selection (book) will follow the same structure. Use the “Daily Checklist” (click to download) with your student to ensure they complete every step each session.
It is important that the student chooses the “Read to Me” option for every new reading selection as this will help to build their reading fluency and comprehension skills.
