[su_spoiler title=”Headphone recommendations”]
Use headphones to make sure you can hear clearly and to help you block out distractions around you.
We recommend headphones that:
- Have high quality stereo sound and cover the ear.
- Have a padded headband and ear cups for comfort.
Headphones we like for their durability and price are the Deluxe Stereo Headphones from Altronics.
The following headphone types are not recommended:
- Active noise cancelling headphones as they alter the sound signal of the exercises.
- Bone conduction headphones.
Headphone splitters
3.5 mm headphone splitters allow two sets of headphones to be plugged into a computer at the same time to enable parents to assist their child with the Fast ForWord exercises. Splitters are available from most electronics stores. Here is an example:

Reading Assistant

Step 3: Reading Assistant

[membership level=”3,7,11″]
Step 1
You will need a Logitech H390 (ClearChat Comfort USB) headset (pictured below) or a Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000.
These are available from electronics retailers in-store and online, and have been tested and recommended by the developers of Reading Assistant. These headsets have a USB connection that includes an inbuilt sound card to ensure a high quality signal between the user and the program, and vice versa.
Step 2
Watch this brief “Reading Assistant Tutorial” video with your child. Pay careful attention as it explains how Reading Assistant works and what to do each day.
Step 3
On a computer or laptop, click on the “Start training” button (displayed at the top of every page in the login section).
Step 4
Complete the first session with your child. Use this opportunity to make your child aware of what they need to do and what is expected of them, and to familiarise yourself with the program. Your child will achieve better results with you sitting beside them.
Each reading selection (book) will follow the same structure. Use the “Daily Checklist” (click to download) with your child to ensure they complete every step each session.
It is important that your child chooses the “Read to Me” option for every new reading selection as this will help to build their reading fluency and comprehension skills.
